All proceeds raised will directly benefit YWCA Regina violence prevention programs and services.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will take place on September 10th, 2019. This highly visible event will take place downtown Regina and feature a 0.75 km walk, along with a post-walk lunch reception recognizing participant fundraisers and sponsors at Regina city plaza.
There is a serious need for intimate partner violence prevention services in our community. Saskatchewan has the highest reported rate of domestic violence and intimate partner homicide of all Canadian provinces, and Saskatchewan's rate of sexual assault is twice the national average. Almost 80% of women accessing YWCA Regina shelters are there as a result of violence.
YWCA Regina responds to this need with programs, services, and advocacy crucial to providing women and children with the fundamental right to safety and security. YWCA Regina’s Isabel Johnson Shelter andMy Aunt’s Place provide women and children with 24 hour support services in safety planning, counselling, and assistance in connecting to community resources and permanent housing. In 2016, YWCA Regina shelters for women and children leaving situations of domestic violence housed 700 women and children. However, the need continues to be much greater. Lacking space, YWCA Regina turned away over 2000 women and children last year.
YWCA Regina is making a difference in the lives of women and children leaving situations of intimate partner violence, but with further financial support, we can do so much more. Step up and Take a Stand on preventing violence against women today.
